Job Description
Butchers are professional meat cutters who prepare a variety of cuts of meat, poultry, and fish for consumers to buy. They can be employed by a retail stores, wholesale company or smallgoods manufacturers. They perform various duties, such as weighing meat, wrapping it, and putting it out for display. In retail stores, they also wait on customers and prepare special cuts of meat upon request.

Qualifications
To start out as a butcher, generally, you will need to complete Year 10 and gain an apprenticeship with a butcher shop or in a wholesale company as an assistant.
While gaining on the job experience you will also complete and earn a Certificate III in Meat Processing (Retail Butcher).
Alternatively, you may be able to complete this qualification through a TAFE or private college.
