Job Description

Fashion Designers plan, design, develop and create new garments and accessories, or modify existing ones to suit current trends. The garments and accessories fashion designers create include clothing, footwear, handbags and jewellery.

Qualifications

There is no particular industry accreditation or formal qualification required to work as a Fashion Designer in Australia. This is an industry where having a folio of work and/or work experience alongside a qualification is highly regarded.

Complete a vocational qualification in fashion design. This may be a Certificate III in Design Fundamentals or Certificate III in Clothing and Textile Production. Prerequisites may vary between institutions, but usually an interview and/or a folio of work is required. Alternatively, gain experience with a fashion house or designer.
